Automotive Guide Replacement Carburetors

Original mechanical parts in your vehicle will not last forever. They will all eventually need to be replaced. One of these parts that will eventually need to be changed is the carburetor. When the time comes to replace the carburetor, you will have two options. The first option you have is to go to an official dealer and have an original factory part installed. These parts are called OEM parts. Your other choice would be to have a replacement part installed from an aftermarket store. Regardless of your decision, there will be both advantages and disadvantages of both choices.

What does a carburetor do?

In order for the engine to operate the way it should, the mixture of air and fuel going into it must be regulated. This is what the carburetor does. There are many different types of carburetors that function according to the engine in which they are installed. The carburetor will need to be calibrated to a particular setting so that the amount of pressure required for the type of performance you need from the car is met. This is especially true for performance vehicles, which need carburetors that will be able to give them the maximum horsepower they require.

Replacement vs. Original Part

The type of vehicle you have will determine the type of carburetor you will need to use. For example, classic cars will need original parts from an authorized dealer in order to maintain the title "classic car." If you are, however, putting a carburetor into a car that will be used for racing, you will need to install a carburetor that is designed for high performance. This type of part will have to be obtained from an aftermarket auto parts dealer. More than likely, the original factory part will not be suitable for that type of function.
