Automotive Guide Ethanol Corporate Welfare May Have Been Worth It After All

Many free market economists have complained that all the subsidies for ethanol production has been an unnecessary burden on the American Taxpayer. Actually I am one of those free-market type thinkers myself. Indeed businesses and industries must compete in and remain strong and healthy and we should not bail out or subsidize industries.

With the President’s push for “flex fuels” and biofuels we have seen the US Automakers bring forth initiatives to produce cars, which can run on biofuel or gasoline. Thus the flex fuel usage will be very common thing in the years ahead. Ford is going to build the Ford Escape a mini-SUV and GM is also planning several E85 (85% Ethanol Blend fuel) capable automobiles. This may just be what the US Automakers need to re-gain their market share lost from high fuel costs as fewer folks wanted to buy gas guzzling SUVs

This is good because we need to get something for all that Ethanol Corporate Welfare all these years and actually make this work. Personally, I cringe at that stuff, but now that we have done it, let's all get paid. In other words, it is time for that investment to be realized by the American People.

If we can get to 8-10% of all America’s gasoline usage from fuel we grow instead of import from foreign lands, well that would be just swell. I agree with Ford's new Escape Mini SUV and GM's new SmartCars with electronic controlled fuel economy and computerized efficiency build in that everyone wins. Perhaps there is a new E85 Ethanol Powered car in your future. Consider this in 2006.
