Extended car warranty, extended vehicle service agreement, extended service contract, car warranty – they are all the same thing.

A car warranty is like an insurance policy against car repairs. A warranty is purchased prior to vehicle issues and used if and only if repairs are needed to the vehicle.

A car warranty will not cover routine maintenance like oil changes. Every company and every policy is different. So you will need to do your research before you buy.

Some questions to consider:

Can you take your car to any repair facility or only those approved by the warranty company?

Exactly what does your warranty cover? Are there certain repairs or replacement parts not covered?

Some policies cover towing or rental cars. Is this something you want or need? Is it include or does it cost extra?

Is the warranty company solid? Do they insure their own policies?

What if your car breaks down after hours? Do they have 24 hour support or a program for you to follow if your car breaks down on a Sunday afternoon?

Discounts! Don’t buy at full price. There is always a discount or promotion in car warranties. If you decide to buy from a company unless you just enjoy parting with your money ask or wait for a discount. Check their website or ask your sales representative.
