Toyota is one of the oldest and most successful Japanese companies that achieved great results on the world market and now it is one of the most competitive auto companies in the world. Many analytics consider that such a success and world’s recognition of the company was the result of use of a particular style of management or some even spoke about a unique Japanese mentality and cultural traditions, namely they state that one of the main reasons of Toyota’s expansion on the world market was a traditional Japanese Total Quality Management and teams work concept. The notion of teams is quite old but it was and still is particularly popular in Japan where it was spread from all over the world since it helped Japanese companies, namely Toyota, to succeed and, at the same time, their way of management and work were borrowed by companies from other countries. It was a natural process since Toyota opened its shared offices in different countries all over the world and it is not surprisingly that they use their traditional teams work and TQM principles there and their rivals, seeing the Toyota’s success introduced such principles in their own work. One of the most recent examples of such a shared office whose work is based on the teams work principle is the Toyota’s IT building in Torrance, California that is headquarters of the Japanese company’s US sales and marketing department and it is focused on e-commerce. It is extremely important that teams work within Toyota was effective because it seems to be a universal principle that the company uses in all countries it works in and this principle is one of cornerstones of the company’s international policy and strategy.

However, some specialists warn Toyota about the danger and even risk that teams work bears. Since they doubt in the effectiveness of the teams work principle and predict possible failures of the company on the world markets. As for me, on the one hand, I wouldn’t say that Toyota is doomed to fail but, on the other hand, I would take into account the warnings I have just mentioned. I’ll try to explain my point of view. Despite the fact that teams work has a lot of advantages and numerous successes of companies, such as Toyota, using it prove its effectiveness and it also permits “to save billions by moving people out of purely supervisory position into flatter workgroups” . But it also has a negative side because there are not so many teams work successes that were achieved “without misdirection, false starts, demoralization and unwanted turnover, as valuable people decided they could not adapt to the new regime”. It is particularly important because in post-industrial societies, where information and information technologies play an extremely important role, the role of an individual grows and sometimes it may be the key role. Finally, I would like to underline that any company can’t stop its development otherwise it will disappear. Consequently, Toyota has to continue its progress and introduce necessary innovations on all levels in order to keep pace with the global processes and recent trends that will help the company to sustain its leading positions whereas the use of old methods and style of work threaten to turn the company into a rigid structure using archaic methods.
